Sample Menu for Kittens

The Carnivora™ whole animal carcass patties mixed with a small amount of warm water is ideal for the kittens’ first meals.

It takes only a lesson or two before they learn to lick and then eat the semi-solid meal. When feeding an entire litter, make certain all kittens receive adequate amounts of food at each meal. Large litters will need more supplementary feeding than small litters. Kittens, like cats, do not readily accept food served at temperature extremes, whereas food offered near body temperature (38.5 degrees C) is most preferred. This is logical considering that in the wild a cat’s diet consists mostly of freshly killed prey with normal body temperature at the time of consumption.

Once the kitten is successfully weaned it can be maintained on the Carnivora™ dietary products for life. An assortment of whole animal carcass patties should ideally be rotated ensuring both white and red meat patties are fed. Carnivora™ offers a wide range of whole animal carcass patties including chicken, turkey, pork, bison, beef, goat, lamb, duck, steelhead trout and rabbit.

Organ Meats
Carnivora™ Offal contains liver, heart, kidney, lungs, spleen and pancreas. It can be added to the whole animal patties or fed as a smaller separate meal three or four times a week. We encourage additional offal in a kitten’s diet as this follows the feline’s natural feeding behaviour where they often show a preference for entrails over other parts of the carcass.

Raw Meaty Bones
By five or six weeks of age a wild cub or kit’s permanent teeth erupt and grow rapidly enabling them to eat whole small animal and fish carcasses and other animal tissue containing bone. At this stage the female moves them frequently to new den sites to improve access to prey. Domestic kittens should be fed in a similar manner. Along with whole animal carcass patties, kittens should be offered whole chicken necks. If they accept them as youngsters, they will continue to eat them and have clean teeth for life.

Supplements
Cold Water Fish Oil or Primrose Oil can also be added in the diet daily or throughout the week.
